Welcome to the world of Impact Catering, first choice for event and business catering in Manchester and Salford.

Impact Catering has provided Business Catering across Manchester and Salford for almost 30 years, from Sandwich Platters and Sausage Rolls to Conference Catering and Canapés.

From Small Beginnings…

In the early 1970s a bright young Manchester University Biochemistry graduate (!) borrowed a sum of money and bought a craft bakery in Pendlebury. He had identified a niche in the market delivering sandwich platters to businesses that might formerly have taken clients out to lunch. Using the bakery as a base for his fledgling business, he set about promoting his new business, initially to colleagues within the University, and amongst the wider business community in the North West. The idea that catering could be ‘brought in’ saving time and expense was an attractive prospect, and the idea soon caught on.

Using the bakery to produce a range of artisan breads and patisserie products and sourcing high quality ingredients from local suppliers, Impact Catering soon became known for it’s imaginative take on the ‘business lunch’ catering along the way, for visiting royalty and local tradesman alike. The business flourished and an entrepreneurial spirit – coupled with a passion for high quality basic ingredients, simply cooked – encouraged him to open one of the first real Bistro type restaurants in the North West: Bistro 221in Monton. Similar restaurants opening in Leigh and Culceth quickly followed the success of this venture.

Within 10 years or so the business had become quite a thriving community, encompassing the bakery, three restaurants, Impact catering and a deli, employing staff from a wide variety of cultures, backgrounds and ages. The young graduate had come a long way since his days delivering sandwiches around Manchester and felt he had accomplished much of what he set out to achieve. He followed his heart and prepared to up sticks and live the good life in France with his wife and young family, selling each part of the business as a going concern…

Having worked within the business since the very early days, Sarah and Gary (realising his dream of becoming a rock star was becoming increasingly unlikely) bought the outside catering side of the business in March of 1997.

Come Great Things…

In the beginning things were hectic! We found ourselves juggling the competing demands of bringing up four small children, renovating a house, and learning to run a business. However, we had the passion of youth on our side coupled with seemingly endless energy and boundless enthusiasm. Adding hard work and our absolute passion for food ensured that the business continued to flourish. So much so that within a couple of years it was clear that we were rapidly outgrowing our original premises and it was evident that we would eventually need to move. It took some time until we found the ideal site in a location closer to our main customer base, but in time we managed to secure a suitable building (complete with its own flagpole). After complete refurbishment of the warehouse and offices, including, of course, installation of a brand new state-of-the-art lovely, bright and shiny catering kitchen, we moved into our new premises in 2009 … and here we continue to flourish and grow.

Fast Forward Almost 20 Years!

Whilst we still embrace the principles upon which the business was founded, believing passionately that good food can only ever be the product of quality ingredients, over the years we have developed and expanded the range of menus on offer so that whilst the same basic choices are still available (after all, a freshly baked sausage roll is still as tasty today!) these are complemented by more contemporary options providing greater choice and variety, and reflecting the diversity of tastes within an increasingly food-conscious clientele. Similarly, during the past few years we have seen a huge increase in the number of people requesting dishes that are suitable for those suffering from food allergies. We have taken this in our stride, and can provide a range of alternative options to cater for even the most restrictive diets.

Of course, back in the day when Impact Catering first began, the business was mainly focused around delivering working lunches and private celebrations. Whilst this area is still of key importance today, the large event and corporate catering side of the business has expanded to include a range of additional services to complement our delicious food and ensure your event is a resounding success. We can provide waiting-on and bar staff; rental equipment and marquee hire; floral arrangements and fancy linen. In fact, whatever additional services you might require, just ask and we will organise it for you. We will do our best to ensure your event runs smoothly and remains memorable for all the right reasons.

We now have our eldest son Will on board, whose enthusiasm, energy and commitment are proving invaluable. During the next chapter in our story we will continue to develop and improve the services Impact Catering offers, committing ourselves, as always, to not simply meeting, but exceeding, your expectations.
